Senior Check List

- Create and Edit Your Resume and Cover Letter: Making a good first impression with these documents is a critical step in the job search process. To ensure your documents accurately reflect your achievements, come to Career Services for an individual appointment.
- Practice Interviewing: Preparation is key when it comes to interviewing. Schedule a mock interview with Career Services to help you understand the interview process, how to prepare, and what types of questions to anticipate.
- Attend Career Fairs and Networking Events: Avoid the temptation to do 100% of your job search from behind a computer screen. A successful job search is one that combines multiple methods. Remember: Networking is THE best way to find a job!
- Secure References: Identify 3 people who can attest to your academic and professional capabilities (not family or friends). Be sure to ask ahead of time if they would be willing to serve as a reference. This is a necessary step for both job searching and graduate school.
- Clean up your Online Presence: Take down ANYTHING (pictures, wall posts, etc.) that show you in an unfavorable light. What comes up when you "Google" yourself?
- Buy a Suit: While it's not the most exciting purchase you'll ever make, it's definitely worth the investment. A classic suit will come in handy for interviews, job fairs, and other professional events.
