Fall in Love With Your Internship

As Valentine’s Day approaches, you might be thinking mostly about where the hottest date spot might be. It’s great to take a night to celebrate Valentine’s Day, but it’s also a good time to be thinking about finding an internship that you love just as much as your significant other. By locking down an internship, you will put yourself in a position to gain valuable experience and enter the professional world. In addition, you will be able to broaden your network and make connections that can help you secure a full time position after graduation.

Start early in the process. If you are looking for a summer or fall internship, do your research now and begin reaching out to employers. Make a list of expectations you have regarding the type of internship you want and tailor that list to specific companies. Be honest with the employer about what you hope to achieve from the internship to ensure that your time will be beneficial for all involved.

Remain respectful, open, and professional. Dress as if you are a full time employee and follow all of the stipulations of the company. Be aware of your office presence and show your co-workers that you are enthusiastic about learning about the job. Volunteer as much as you can and show them you have what it takes to be a valuable member of the team.

Here are some good places to start:

-Faculty

If you take the right approach to your internship, it will lead you to finding a position that you love just as much as your significant other. The experience gained will last a lot longer than a dozen red roses.
