Prepping for a Job Fair

Career Services is full of great opportunities for you to attend job fairs this semester.  Regardless of your major, there are various ways for you to get experience, meet other professionals and survey the job searching scene.  Visit our events page here to see which one is the best fit for you.
Before you go, make sure that you are prepared so that you get the most out of it.  Without preparation for a job fair, you can come off as careless and unprofessional to an employer and as a result, they might think twice about hiring you.
Make sure your resume is updated.  Have someone in Career Services look at it before the fair to make sure it is ready to go.  In addition, practice your 30 second commercial about yourself.  Prepare a short speech that outlines who you are, what you hope to do, and anything else an employer might need to know.  Rehearse before you go so it sounds confident and natural.
Don’t forget to dress the part! Wear professional clothing and be sure to have a clean and polished appearance.  Employers won’t want to hire someone that looks like they just rolled out of bed.
